Position Overview

We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Lead Real-Time VFX Artist specializing in Unity3D to join our growing team.
In this key leadership role, you’ll define and lead the VFX vision across multiple projects — establishing workflows, mentoring artists, and delivering next-level real-time effects that elevate gameplay, atmosphere, and storytelling.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with a deep technical understanding of Unity’s VFX Graph and particle systems, a strong artistic eye, and experience shipping AA or AAA projects. You’ll collaborate closely with Art Directors, Tech Artists, and Developers to ensure our VFX pipelines are both visually stunning and highly optimized.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Vision: Define the creative and technical direction for real-time VFX across all Unity projects.

• Pipeline Ownership: Establish and maintain efficient, scalable workflows for Unity’s VFX Graph, Shader Graph, and custom tools.

• Hands-On Production:

  • Create high-quality, performant effects including explosions, fire, smoke, magic, environmental FX, and dynamic weather.

  • Integrate VFX seamlessly into Unity’s URP and HDRP pipelines.

• Mentor & Review: Guide a team of VFX artists, providing artistic and technical feedback, fostering growth and consistency.

• Shader & Material Work: Develop shaders and materials using Shader Graph, Amplify, and HLSL to achieve complex visual effects.

• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner with lighting, tech art, and gameplay teams to ensure VFX support gameplay and artistic goals.

• Optimization: Ensure VFX maintain top visual quality while meeting strict real-time performance requirements.

• Freelancer Oversight: Review and direct external VFX contributions to align with Beffio’s standards.

• Client-Facing Tasks: Participate in select client calls to present progress, align on creative direction, and discuss feedback.

Requirements

• Experience Level: 6+ years of professional experience in real-time VFX, with at least 1 shipped AA or AAA title.

• Engine Expertise: Deep understanding of Unity3D (URP, HDRP, SRP) and real-time VFX workflows.

• VFX Graph Mastery: Proven experience creating advanced effects with Unity’s VFX Graph, Particle System, and Shader Graph.

• Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in HLSL, C# scripting, and shader/material creation

  • Familiarity with profiling tools and performance optimization

• Software Proficiency: Experience with EmberGen, Houdini, After Effects, or similar tools.

• Artistic Sense: Strong grasp of color, motion, timing, scale, and visual storytelling.

• Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead or mentor a team of artists.

• Version Control: Familiarity with Git, Perforce, or similar systems.

• Communication: Strong English communication skills (written and spoken).

• Portfolio: A polished reel showcasing high-quality real-time effects in Unity3D.

Bonus Skills

• Experience with Unreal Engine (Niagara, Cascade).

• Familiarity with Python or C# tool development.

• Knowledge of lighting, post-processing, and cinematic FX.

• Understanding of procedural VFX workflows in Houdini.

• Passion for innovation and pushing the boundaries of real-time visuals.
